Economics of Choice

Stumbled across this article when I am surfing HWZ forum yesterday.

Once again, I doubted myself and threw myself into a state of mental chaos.

This is what will happen when you are like a Willow, swaying constanting due to external forces.

Am I like one of the students mentioned in the article? Pursuing studies in Business because I might be able to get that high-paying job in the bank? Or is it that I am really doing it for interest?

I admit that I have similar mindset as those student mentioned in the article, "I want to study business because I can go and work in the finance industry or start a business and make some serious money" and "can go work for a bank and they pay more than other companies. With the cost of living spiralling up, I am just being pragmatic."

Also, till now despite exposed myself to more information, I still carry the mentality that Business degree = working in a bank and the financial services sector = big money. I can't help relating education choice to future career path, even though I fully aware that there are a lot of people taking up career paths that's not related to what they previously studied in school.

Therefore, I took Business, because I had determined my career path. Of course I like myself to work in a bank and earn big money. However, I am more interested in marketing and advertising, that's why I chose Business. Business also seems to be the "right" path to learn and expose more to financial planning, which is my interest too. Not only that, It's also due to my lack of solid interest in other fields of study such as engineering and science.

So, I can conclude that I took Business is because I am being practical and being passionate about my interest.

"The girl in designer jeans talks about going on to a brand-name MBA - Harvard Business School, no less - after completing her first degree, so she can 'be a top earner in no time'."

Even though my mindset are pretty narrowed. I know that even though one complete his or her degree in branded school, one might not be a top earner in no time. If that is really the case, then everybody will be maddly trying to get a place in branded college, maddly taking up loan to pay for the tuition fee, since they can pay back the loan after they become a top earner.

It also seems that everybody is filtering what they are hearing, since they seems to ignore the fact that only a handful of the best students land such high-paying jobs. Of course anything is possible, but if everybody become the best students, then only the cream of the best crops shall get that high-paying jobs.

Besides, be a top-earner also seems to become the job satisfaction and passion. Can one really trade job satisfactory with money? If you don't like that high-paying job, won't you be suffering everyday? Or that for money, one can really do anything?

Questions to ponder over, I think I got my answer, so how about yours?
